5 Star again

For the second year running we have been awarded the prestigious 5 star rating in our audit for the Rail Industry Supplier Qualification Scheme (RISQS).  The audit covered a wide range of activities including abseiling, works on a range of bridge and building structures, marine structures and earthworks.  This 5 star rating is testament to the hard work we put into keeping safety and technical standards at the highest levels.

The audit looked in detail at both our operational procedures and our management structure. The audit is carried out annually and is in addition to the ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001 audits which monitor the systems we have in place for quality and safety management.

Happy Birthday – 29 today!

It seems almost impossible to believe, but 29 years ago today Andy started Up and Under at 44 Argyle Road in Southampton, before moving back to Crewe.

Anderton Boat Lift – Media Coverage

Tim and Danny were recently given the full paparazzi treatment during their inspection of the Anderton Boat Lift near Northwich.  The struture, which was constructed in 1875, was receiving a detailed examination from the team of engineers from Up and Under.  Local press photographers spent a morning getting shots from every angle.

Anderton Boat Lift is just one of a long list of historical structures we have had the pleasure of working on, including: Menai Bridge, the Saltash Bridge, Pontcysyllte aqueduct, Tower Bridge, plus castles, stately homes, churches and underground antiquities.

If you go down to the woods….

……. you might learn something.  Certainly that was the experience for 22 youngsters from The Cheshire Young Carers when they visited Delamere Forest on a trip funded by the Up and Under Foundation.  Arriving in the morning they were given instruction in how to build a cozy woodland shelter.  After a picnic lunch they ventured into the forest with a knowledgeable guide to look for home of rabbits, squirrels and badgers.  Of course at some point they managed to find a stream to jump into and much merriment was had.

At the end of the day, having said their farewells to the Centre and Foundation staff everyone got onto the bus, and probably a crafty snooze.

Competition Time

CIHT Consultants File

The annual CIHT consultants file has droped onto our door mats again.  We are pleased to report that our continued hard work, investment in development and innovation has once more moved us up the league tables.  Overall our turnover in the Transport and Highways sector has gon up by 20% over the past 12 monthsdemonstrating both a renewed confidence in the industry, but also confidence from our clients in the services we provide.

We have seen The Up and Under Group move up 10 places in the league table of companies ranked by transportation turnover.

Most strikingly of all is the move from 75th to 52nd in the list of companies ranked by transport staff.

Foundation Rides

The Foundation Rides are back! This Sunday The Up and Under Foundation, with support from Up and Under Group, will be organising the third Foundation Rides to raise money for disadvantaged young people.

CPD – CIHT Wales – All About Money

It’s all about money! Andy will be at Kinmell Manor on Tuesday 19th May with a presentation titled The Commercial Engineer.
